Daniel 4:30-32

2 07 2011

Daniel 4:30) The king spoke, saying, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?”

Daniel 4:31) While the word [was still] in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you!

Daniel 4:31) And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling [shall be] with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”

Short but precise, I know I’ve done it and I am almost sure you’ve done it too, glorifying what we’ve made with our own hands to make ourselves feel good about it.  It doesn’t have to be big but something that takes our eyes off him and puts it in the work of our own hands, the narcissist in us wants us to glorify ourselves and admit no one higher.  We’ve all seen this with many of our leaders in the world today; with them taking bribes, becoming adulterers, stealing, rape, or even murder… they are convinced that they are untouchable; for example: Remember when John Edwards kept saying for weeks that he didn’t have a mistress, but after he was reelected he admitted it, like saying, “Now I’m back in and you can’t touch me until my term is up.” But on 6/4/11 a federal grand jury indicted him on spending over $925,000 spent to keep his mistress and their baby in hiding until after the presidential race in 2008.  Almost a million dollars all for a temporary power… and still it was taken away.  The power and glory that we gain in the eyes of the people of this world is only temporary, but the power and glory we gain in the eyes of our Lord Jesus will last for eternity.
